Hurricane Voices Fund Established at The Wellness Community

For the past seven years, The Wellness Community - Greater Boston has partnered with Hurricane Voices to provide education for school communities across the state working with students and families in which a parent has cancer.  Hurricane Voices will be closing their doors this spring, however a fund has been established in the organization’s name here at The Wellness Community - Greater Boston to ensure that this work is carried on.

The primary mission of the Hurricane Voices Fund for School and Family Programs is to support the continuation and evolution of the When a Parent Has Cancer: Strengthening the School’s Response conference. The conference was jointly developed by Hurricane Voices and TWC-GB to offer information and skill sets that help create a caring environment for students coping with parental cancer. Additionally, monies from the Hurricane Voices Fund may be allocated to support the management, growth, and distribution of the Family Reading List—a project created by Hurricane Voices and adopted by TWC-GB upon Hurricane Voices’ closing.  A tertiary focus of the Fund is to supplement additional programs within TWC-GB that provide support for children coping with parental cancer.

The Wellness Community - Greater Boston applauds the work done by Hurricane Voices to raise consciousness about the impact of breast cancer and the importance of community awareness and activism in addressing the myriad issues that a cancer diagnosis poses to individuals, families and communities.
